Sam Sobhani is an English/Iranian painter based in London. She holds an MA in Painting from The Royal College of Art (2025) and a BA in Fine Art from Falmouth University.
Working in thin layers of oil paint, Sobhani applies and erases the surface until a lyrical, abstract composition feels resolved. Slow, meditative grounds meet faster stream of conscousness marks, drawing on the automatic methods of surrealist-affiliated artists such as Ithell Colqhuhoun. The paintings read as interior landscapes, holding traces of memory, inherited stories and myth.

Her influences range from Monet and Cy Twombly to Persian miniatures, the Pre-Raphelites, vintage children's book illustrations and Disney Cartoons.
